T-Mobile Czech Republic today announced plans to launch a wireless broadband network based on UMTS TDD in Prague by year-end, with nationwide coverage to be built during consequent months.
T-Mobile will initially deploy a solution provided by U.S. vendor IPWireless in the unpaired spectrum of the 1.9GHz band, and then extend the footprint of the network through to the summer of 2006 to cover nearly half of the Czech population with UMTS TDD technology in the 872MHz spectrum that it recently acquired.
T-Mobile plans to enhance its 3G offering by introducing UMTS FDD as soon as HSPA is proven to be a stable commercial offering.
